Hardness

Hardness orders minerals by how well they resist scratching. Wikipedia notes that "quartz is the mineral defining the value of 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness," the reference scale geologists use to compare one mineral against another. Browsing by hardness groups minerals that scratch, or resist scratching, in the same way.
