Anorthosite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock characterized by its composition: mostly plagioclase feldspar at ninety to one hundred percent, with a minimal mafic component of zero to ten percent. It forms through density separation, as plagioclase crystals, being less dense than magma, float to the top of a magma chamber and concentrate there as they crystallize.
