Quartzite

Metamorphic Rocks

Quartzite is a hard, non-foliated metamorphic rock that was originally pure quartz sandstone. Sandstone converts into quartzite through heating and pressure usually related to tectonic compression within orogenic belts, which is why quartzite is also called a metasandstone.
