Rib Mountain, also known as Rib Hill, stands about 4 miles southwest of downtown Wausau, Wisconsin, in the village that bears its name. It is composed of quartzite covered by a softer sheath of syenite, intruded roughly 1.5 billion years ago, and the mountain is now home to Rib Mountain State Park and the Granite Peak Ski Area, which opened in 1938 and today offers 65 runs.
