Montafon is a 39 kilometer valley in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg, traversed by the Ill River and running north from Bludenz to the Verwall Alps, with the Silvretta and Rätikon ranges forming its southern boundary. Piz Buin, at 3,312 meters, is the highest peak in the Silvretta range and in Vorarlberg. About 16,421 people live in the valley, which is a significant destination for skiing, hiking and other alpine tourism.
