The Höllental is a narrow valley in Lower Austria between the steep limestone massifs of the Schneeberg and the Rax, running 16.5 kilometers between Schwarzau im Gebirge and Hirschwang and drained by the River Schwarza. It lies within the Natura 2000 protected area known as the Northeastern Border Alps, and its springs, including the Fuchs Pass Spring, Kaiserbrunn and the Wasseralm Spring, supply drinking water to Vienna through the First Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline. The valley is also a recreation corridor, with the Höllental Straße road, a daily bus service and a seasonal railway carrying visitors who come to swim, kayak and fly fish along the Schwarza.
