The Etschtal, known in Italian as the Val d'Adige, is an Alpine valley carved by the Adige River in Trentino-Alto Adige, northern Italy, running from Merano to Bolzano and from Salorno to Rovereto. In its upper reaches it separates the Alps to the west from the Dolomites to the east, and further south it divides the Pre-Alps and Lake Garda area from the Venetian pre-Alps. South of Rovereto the valley takes on the separate name Vallagarina, and the broader term Val d'Adige is sometimes used for the whole river valley down to the Padan Plain.
