The second period of the Paleoproterozoic era, spanning 2.3 billion to 2.05 billion years ago. The Great Oxidation Event begun in the preceding Siderian continued through the Rhyacian, and the roughly 300 million year Huronian glaciation, one of the most severe ice ages in Earth's history, fell within this period.
