Water Science

Disciplines concerned with water on and beneath the land surface. Includes hydrology, the study of the movement, distribution and quality of surface and near-surface water generally, hydrogeology, the study specifically of groundwater held and moving within rock and soil, and limnology, the study of inland waters such as lakes, rivers and wetlands as ecological and physical systems. Belongs here: any discipline whose primary subject is fresh water on or beneath the land. Does not belong here: oceanography, whose subject is the ocean rather than inland or subsurface fresh water (Ocean Science), or cryosphere science, whose subject is water in its frozen rather than liquid state (Cryosphere Science).
