June Gloom is a Southern California term for a weather pattern of cloudy, overcast skies and cool temperatures during late spring and early summer, caused by low-altitude stratus clouds forming over the cool waters of the California Current and spreading overnight into coastal California. Though most common in June, the same marine-layer pattern in surrounding months has given rise to related colloquialisms such as Graypril, May Gray, Junuary, No-Sky July, and Fogust.
