Phenomena

Discrete, dated physical events the earth has produced: historical earthquakes and their tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, mass extinction events read from the rock record, notable storms and recurring climate patterns, an ocean current and an ancient submarine landslide. Grouped here by the discipline whose live relationship names each event's primary process, even where a real secondary effect (an eruption's climatic cooling, an earthquake's tsunami) is also attached. Belongs here: a specific, time-bounded event with a real date or date range and a documented cause. Does not belong here: an ongoing physical process without a discrete date or event boundary, held under Processes instead, or an abstract principle or scale used to measure such an event, held under Concepts, even where the two are closely related, such as the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (a Concept) describing the intensity of a historical earthquake (a Phenomenon).
