A shallow magnitude 7.5 to 7.6 earthquake that struck the Minahasa Peninsula of Indonesia on 28 September 2018, with its epicenter in Donggala Regency about 70 kilometers from Palu. The quake triggered a localized tsunami that struck Palu with waves of 5 to 7 meters and combined with severe soil liquefaction, making it the deadliest earthquake worldwide in 2018 and the deadliest in Indonesia since the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake.
