Seismology

Historical and notable earthquakes and their direct effects: 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, 1960 Valdivia Earthquake, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, 1755 Lisbon Earthquake and 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami among them. Belongs here: a discrete earthquake event, carrying a live in-discipline link to Seismology as its primary process even where a secondary oceanographic effect, such as a tsunami, is also attached. Does not belong here: a volcanic eruption, held under Volcanology, even where it also triggers seismic activity.
