2015 Nepal Earthquake

Also called the Gorkha earthquake, this magnitude 7.8 to 7.9 earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April 2015, its epicenter about 34 kilometers southeast of Lamjung and 85 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu at a shallow depth of roughly 8 kilometers that intensified the shaking. The quake and its aftershocks killed at least 8,857 people in Nepal and nearly 9,000 across Nepal, India, China and Bangladesh combined, with almost 22,000 injured, and caused about 10 billion dollars in damage, roughly half of Nepal's annual economic output at the time. It was the country's worst natural disaster since the 1934 Nepal-India earthquake.
