Andros, The Bahamas

Andros is an archipelago in the Bahamas that is politically recognized as a single island, and its combined land area exceeds that of all the other roughly 700 Bahamian islands together. It measures about 167 kilometers long by 64 kilometers at its widest point, made up of three major landmasses linked by hundreds of smaller cays, mangrove channels and tidal creeks. The island carries the Andros Barrier Reef, the sixth longest coral reef in the world, running about 225 kilometers along its eastern side, and hosts what is described as the world's largest collection of blue holes. Its population was about 8,000 as of 2022, with an economy built on government employment, naval operations, fishing and tourism.
