Amirante Islands

The Amirante Islands, also called Les Amirantes, are a group of coral islands and atolls belonging to the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, stretching about 155 kilometers across the shallow Amirantes Bank from the African Banks in the north to Desnoeufs in the south. The group comprises 20 islands with a total land area of only 11.5 square kilometers and a highest elevation of 15 meters, made up of eight single islands, five low sand cays and three uplifted sand cays, plus three atolls containing 18 further islets. Ile Desroches, the principal island, is the largest settlement, and as of a 2014 estimate the islands' total population was about 300.
