This group collects the former Valleys of the Alps and Central Europe group's members that read, on their own description, as Italian but not Alpine: the Apennine valleys of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, a Ligurian valley at Genoa, the Po Valley plain, whose own description calls it a plain running "from the Western Alps to the Adriatic Sea" rather than one Alpine valley, and southern valleys in Lazio, Campania, Calabria and Sicily, including two small valleys within the city of Rome itself. These entries were originally filed alongside the true Alpine valleys in the earlier, broader group; reading each one's own description shows they belong to the Apennine chain, the Padan plain or peninsular Italy's own hill country rather than to the Alps, so this group keeps peninsular Italy's valleys together and separate from the three Alpine groups.
