This group collects the former Valleys of the Alps and Central Europe group's members whose own description places them outside the Alps entirely, in the lowlands and uplands of Germany, Austria and France: the Black Forest valleys of Baden-Wurttemberg, the Saxon and Thuringian valleys of eastern Germany, the Rhineland valley that gave the Neandertal its name, the Weser Uplands of central Germany, the Danube's Wachau valley in Lower Austria, cut through the Bohemian Massif rather than the Alps, and the Moselle, Rhone-downstream-of-Lyon and Chevreuse valleys of France and its neighbors. None of these lie within the Alpine massif, so they are kept apart from the three Alpine groups above.
