Fossil beds and rock units from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, famous for dinosaurs, pterosaurs, marine reptiles and early birds and mammals. A site belongs here when its cited article dates it to the Triassic, Jurassic or Cretaceous. It excludes older Paleozoic sites and younger Cenozoic ones. Fine-grained limestones and shales preserve feathers, skin and soft tissue at several of these sites, which is why they are central to the study of dinosaur evolution.
