Valtellina, or the Valtelline, is a valley in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, bordering Switzerland, known today for its ski resorts, hot spring spas and local foods such as bresaola and Bitto cheese. It historically served as a key Alpine pass linking northern Italy and Germany, and control of the valley was contested during the Thirty Years' War as part of the Spanish Road.
