The Tendaguru Formation, or Tendaguru Beds, is a highly fossiliferous formation and fossil-rich lagerstatte in the Lindi Region of southeastern Tanzania. It is the oldest sedimentary unit of the Mandawa Basin, resting on much older Neoproterozoic basement rock across a long unconformity, and reaches a total thickness of more than 110 meters. Composed mainly of sandstone with shale, siltstone, clay, conglomerate and limestone, it ranges in age from the late Middle Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous, roughly 165 to 130 million years ago.
