Svenska Högarna

Svenska Högarna, Swedish for Swedish Hillocks, is a small island group and lighthouse station in the Stockholm archipelago of Sweden, east of Möja. The lighthouse stands on Storön, the largest island, built in 1874 as an 18-meter cast-iron conical tower designed by the architect Nils Gustaf von Heidenstam, the only such design in the Stockholm archipelago; it has since moved from rapeseed oil through kerosene, diesel and acetylene to solar power. The islands are a nature reserve with sparse vegetation, rocky shores, and giant's kettles carved into the rock, reachable only by private or taxi boat in calm weather, and the Swedish Maritime Administration maintains a weather station there.
