St Kilda, Scotland

St Kilda is a remote archipelago about 65 kilometers west-northwest of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Its largest island, Hirta, has the highest sea cliffs in the United Kingdom. Geologically the islands are the remnants of a long-extinct ring volcano built from Tertiary igneous rock, and the archipelago was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, one of the few sites in the world recognized for both natural and cultural qualities, valued for its archaeology and as a major seabird breeding ground.
