Sihl Valley

The Sihl Valley, known in German as Sihltal, is a river valley in the Horgen district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland, most commonly used to mean the lower valley southwest of the city of Zurich. It was carved as the left moraine of an Ice Age glacier, and Lake Zurich now occupies the bed left behind by that glacier; the valley is drained by the 68 kilometer Sihl river, which rises in the canton of Schwyz. The valley is heavily wooded in its lower reaches, home to the Sihlwald, the largest remaining deciduous forest on the Swiss Plateau, and near its upper end, in the district of Einsiedeln, lies the 8.5 kilometer lake Sihlsee.
