The Po Valley, also called the Po Plain, Plain of the Po, or Padan Plain, is a major geographical feature of northern Italy, running from the Western Alps to the Adriatic Sea. It extends about 650 kilometers east to west and covers roughly 46,000 square kilometers including its Venetic extension, making it, once combined with the neighboring flatlands of Veneto and Friuli, the largest plain in Southern Europe. It is home to about 17 million people, a third of Italy's population.
