Montceau-les-Mines is a Late Carboniferous fossil deposit associated with the coal mining town of the same name in eastern France, where fine sediment filling an ancient river delta preserved a diverse community of arthropods, amphibians and other early terrestrial life roughly three hundred million years old. The site is particularly notable for its exceptionally preserved myriapods and other arthropods, recovered historically alongside the coal seams the town was built to mine.
