Krishna's Butterball

Krishna's Butterball, also called Vaan Irai Kal or Krishna's Gigantic Butterball, is a giant balancing boulder of granite resting on a short natural incline in the historic coastal town of Mamallapuram in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It stands about six meters high and five meters wide and is estimated to weigh around 250 tonnes, perched on a hillside topped with a low plinth. It forms part of the Group of Monuments at Mamallapuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hindu religious monuments built by the Pallava dynasty in the seventh and eighth centuries CE, and is listed as a protected national monument by the Archaeological Survey of India, though the boulder itself is a natural rock shaped by weathering rather than a carved monument. This entity documents Krishna's Butterball specifically as a geological formation, the granite boulder itself, distinct from Krishna, the Hindu deity it is popularly named after.
