Kazanlak Valley

Kazanlak Valley lies in central Bulgaria, the seventh of the eleven Sub-Balkan valleys running west to east, covering about 780 square kilometers over some 70 kilometers in length and 10 to 12 kilometers in width. It sits between the Balkan Mountains to the north and the Sredna Gora range to the south, drained by the Tundzha River and its tributaries, and forms part of the Rose Valley together with the neighboring Karlovo Valley, known worldwide for its production of damascene roses and rose oil. The valley is also called the Valley of the Thracian Rulers for its dense concentration of ancient Thracian monuments, including the UNESCO World Heritage Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak among more than a thousand burial mounds.
