The Iles de la Madeleine are a small group of uninhabited islands west of Dakar, Senegal, with Sarpan as the main island, known for Stone Age tool finds. Their steep cliffs have been carved by the sea over millions of years, and the islands support notable birds, fish and plant life. They are protected within the Iles de la Madeleine National Park, at about 0.45 square kilometers one of the smallest national parks in the world, and are on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
