Hessdalen is a roughly 15-kilometre valley in Holtalen Municipality in Trondelag county, Norway, about 120 kilometres south of Trondheim and 35 kilometres north of the mining town of Roros; the village of the same name sits in the central part of the valley, and about 150 people live in the village and surrounding valley. The valley is known internationally for the occurrence of unexplained aerial luminous phenomena called the Hessdalen lights, which are monitored by the Hessdalen AMS observation station.
