Gudbrandsdalen is a valley and traditional district in Norway's Innlandet county, running roughly 230 kilometers northwest from Lillehammer toward the Romsdalen valley and drained by the Gudbrandsdalslagen river between Lake Lesjaskogsvatnet and Lake Mjosa. The valley began as a river cut, fluvial landform long before the Scandinavian Mountains were uplifted, and was later reshaped by Quaternary glaciers, and as the Fennoscandian Ice Sheet retreated at the end of the last ice age a large but short lived ice dammed lake formed within it.
