Glenmoriston is a river glen in the Scottish Highlands, running westward from Loch Ness at Invermoriston to Loch Cluanie, where it meets Glen Shiel. The glen is drained by the River Moriston, whose Gaelic name may mean river of the waterfalls, and at Invermoriston the river tumbles over falls into Loch Ness beneath an original bridge built by Thomas Telford in 1813. About five miles up the glen lies Loch Dundreggan, held back by a hydroelectric dam whose scheduled water releases support white water rafting, and in 2009 wild boar were reintroduced to a fenced area of the Dundreggan estate. The glen carries Jacobite history, including a refuge used by Bonnie Prince Charlie and a cairn commemorating the loyalist Roderick Mackenzie.
