The Emmental is a valley in west central Switzerland, part of the canton of Bern, formed by the basins of the Emme and Ilfis rivers across a hilly landscape of meadow and pasture. Farming, especially dairy farming, dominates the local economy, with Burgdorf and Langnau its principal towns, and the area became part of the Emmental Oberaargau administrative region in 2010.
