College Valley is one of five valleys cut into the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland, northern England, within Northumberland National Park, covering about 12,000 acres (49 square kilometers). The Cheviot, at 815 meters (2,674 feet) the highest point in the area, rises above the valley, which holds Bronze Age hill forts testifying to very early human occupation. The valley passed through the ownership of the naval admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, the Grey family of Howick Hall, and Arthur Sutherland before coming under College Valley Estates, funded by a trust set up by Sir James Knott. It remains open to the public on foot, though car access is limited to permit holders.
