Chausey is a group of small islands, islets and rocks off the coast of Normandy in the English Channel, about 17 kilometers from Granville, whose commune it forms a quarter of. The archipelago is a granitic structure shaped by sea and wind erosion, and one of Europe's most extreme tidal ranges, up to 14 meters between low and high water, means the group appears as 365 separate islands at low tide but only 52 at high tide. Its main island, Grande-Ile, is about 1.5 kilometers long and 0.5 kilometers wide, and around 30 people live there year round, a number that swells to roughly 200,000 visitors during the summer.
