The Broughton Archipelago is a group of islands at the eastern end of Queen Charlotte Strait in the Mount Waddington Regional District of British Columbia, Canada. It is the traditional territory of four Kwakwaka'wakw nations, the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw, the Namgis, the Ma'amtagila and the Tlowitsis. Its largest island, Gilford Island, covers 384 square kilometers, and the archipelago's waterways include Beware Passage, Broughton Strait, Johnstone Strait and Knight Inlet, with Cormorant Island the most densely populated of its major islands; the area is rich in biodiversity and includes several provincial parks and conservancies. It was named in 1792 by the explorer George Vancouver, after William Robert Broughton, captain of the expedition's second vessel.
