Aurlandsdalen is a glacially formed Norwegian valley about 40 kilometres long, running from Geiteryggen to Vassbygdi in Aurland Municipality, Vestland county, south of the Sognefjorden. One of Norway's best-known hiking routes follows the valley, which narrows into a tight, dramatic western Norwegian landscape whose mineral-rich phyllite soils support an unusually diverse range of plant species alongside old farms and mountain dairy sites, and the valley has served since prehistoric times as the shortest overland connection between western and eastern Norway.
