Minerals in which a metal cation bonds directly to sulfur, following the Nickel-Strunz sulfide class. Includes pyrite, iron disulfide. Belongs here: any mineral whose defining anion is sulfide rather than sulfate. Does not belong here: a sulfate mineral such as gypsum, where sulfur is bonded to oxygen as a sulfate ion rather than bonded directly to the metal as a sulfide. This class holds one live entity today; further sulfide minerals such as galena or sphalerite have a real home waiting here as later mint waves add them.
