Vujica Yevjevich

Vujica Yevjevich, also transliterated Jevdjevic, was a Yugoslav-American hydrologist, born in 1913 and died in 2006, known as the father of stochastic hydrology. After founding and directing the Hydroenergetic Institute in Belgrade, which led hydroelectric construction in postwar Yugoslavia, he emigrated to the United States and joined the engineering faculty at Colorado State University, where he applied probability and statistics to the analysis of river flows, droughts and reservoir design. His 1972 book Stochastic Processes in Hydrology became a foundational text in the field, and over his career he wrote more than 200 papers and 23 books, co-founding the publishing house Water Resources Publications with his wife.
