Tetsuya Fujita

Tetsuya Theodore Fujita, known in the United States as Ted Fujita, was a Japanese and American meteorologist whose research focused on severe weather. His work at the University of Chicago on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes and typhoons transformed scientific understanding of each. He is best known for creating the Fujita scale of tornado intensity and damage, and he also discovered downbursts and microbursts, advancing understanding of how severe weather phenomena affect people, aircraft and communities.
