Reid Bryson was an American atmospheric scientist, geologist and meteorologist, born in 1920 in Detroit and died in 2008 in Madison, Wisconsin. He earned a degree in geology at Denison University in 1941 and a doctorate in meteorology from the University of Chicago in 1948, then joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where in 1948 he founded and chaired the university's Department of Meteorology and Center for Climatic Research, and in 1970 became the first director of what is now the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.
