Marion King Hubbert, generally known as M. King Hubbert, was an American geologist and geophysicist who worked at the Shell research laboratory in Houston, Texas. He made lasting contributions across geology, geophysics and petroleum geology, and is best remembered for the Hubbert curve and the associated Hubbert peak theory, a model describing how the production rate of a finite resource such as oil rises, peaks and declines over time, work that carried significant political ramifications.
