James Edward Hansen is an American climatologist, born in 1941 in Denison, Iowa, who directs the Program on Climate Science, Awareness and Solutions at Columbia University as an adjunct professor. He is best known for his research in climatology and for his 1988 testimony to the United States Congress on climate change, which helped bring broad public awareness to global warming, and he has since become an advocate for action against dangerous climate change.
