Guy Stewart Callendar

Guy Stewart Callendar was an English steam engineer and inventor whose main contribution to human knowledge was developing the theory linking rising carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere to global temperature. In 1938 he was the first to show that the land temperature of Earth had risen over the previous fifty years, a warming effect earlier proposed by Svante Arrhenius that has since come to be called the Callendar effect. Callendar himself believed the warming would prove beneficial, delaying what he called a return of the deadly glaciers.
