George Patrick Leonard Walker was a British geologist, born in 1926 in Harlesden, London, and died in 2005. He began his career studying mineralogy before making significant contributions to volcanology, and he was widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern quantitative volcanology, holding positions at Imperial College London, the University of Auckland and the University of Hawaii.
