Frank Press

Frank Press was an American geophysicist who served as an advisor to four United States presidents and later served two consecutive terms as president of the National Academy of Sciences from 1981 to 1993. He served on the President's Science Advisory Committee during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations and was appointed by President Richard Nixon to the National Science Board, before being named President Jimmy Carter's Science Advisor and Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy from 1977 to 1981. He authored 160 scientific papers and co-authored the widely used textbooks Earth and Understanding Earth.
