2010 Haiti Earthquake

Seismology

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck near Leogane, Haiti, on 12 January 2010, affecting an estimated three million people and collapsing or severely damaging around 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings. It is considered the deadliest natural disaster of the 21st century for a single country, though its exact death toll remains heavily disputed, and its severity was compounded by Haiti's existing poverty and weak infrastructure.
