Great Historical Earthquakes

Individual named earthquakes, often with tsunamis, that killed many people or reshaped the study of seismology, from 1556 Shaanxi to the 2018 Sulawesi earthquake. An event belongs here when its cited article describes a single named earthquake. It excludes general earthquake concepts such as swarms. Each event has its own magnitude, fault and death toll, and the articles state these as measured or estimated figures, often as ranges.
