A pressure system is a peak or lull in the sea level pressure distribution, a feature of synoptic-scale weather. High- and low-pressure systems evolve from interactions of temperature differentials in the atmosphere, temperature differences between the atmosphere and bodies of water, upper-level disturbances, and the amount of solar heating or radiative cooling an area receives. Low-pressure systems are associated with clouds and precipitation that moderate temperature swings, while high-pressure systems are typically associated with dry weather, clearer skies, and larger diurnal temperature changes; meteorologists analyze pressure systems on surface weather maps.
