Moon dog

Meteorology

A moon dog, or mock moon, also called a paraselene in meteorology, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon consisting of a bright spot to one or both sides of the Moon. It is exactly analogous to a sun dog, the same halo effect produced by moonlight instead of sunlight.
